Condolences
The KARC and I personally want
to send condolences to member and friend Bruce Roberts, upon the recent loss of
his wife Betty, and son David. Bruce asked to include in the newsletter his
appreciation and thanks to all KARC members and friends who have helped him to
survive in this very difficult situation. Bruce said it has been a tremendous
support for him.
Also, our condolences to the
families of legendary street rod builders, Boyd Coddington and 'Lil John
Buttera.
Wheels
of Time Car Show
Volunteer State Auto Club and Main Street: Greeneville
presented the “Wheels of Time” Car Show on Feb. 21-23. Dick and I (Sid) checked it out. It was about a third antique tractors, one
third car show, and one third Ron Jones personal collection of vehicles. It was
worth the trip, and the socializing was good as usual. Dick gave me a quick history of many of the
antique tractors.

Machines and Gossip
Rumor has it that long time Ford Man, Bud Barrett, has a
new diesel powered 2500 Chevy truck in his garage and is thinking about pulling
the Ford engine in his ’40 Ford sedan and putting Chevy power in it as well.
Keith Owens has built a new engine, reputedly a 383” for
his ’37 Pontiac. Going to have lots of polished and chromed goodies on this
one. Visualize Chrome City. He’s going
to redo the firewall and clean up the engine compartment to compliment the
shiny new engine.
Club member Tom Herron has decided not to try skunks as
family pets. Be sure and ask Tom how the baby skunk incident played out in his
new house.
Prez, Cartwright has .030 over 350, with roller cam, put
together into a long block. Plans are
for an Edelbrock multiport fuel injection to feed the fuel.
David Davis' Morris Minor has new paint on the recessed
firewall, and a few more tubes added to the roll cage. Also, I think the 4.3
Chevy V6 is all cleaned up and assembled.
Bill Noe’s 4.3 V6 powered MG is now on the road and Bill
reports it may be bit too much power for his better half. He’s thinking of going to a smaller engine I
didn’t get any more info than that.
Mike Smith was at the last meeting with his DeSoto running
a freshly installed 290 hp crate engine.
Had a nice little thump to it.
Last I heard, the engine was still out of Bill Hurd’s 40
Plymouth awaiting a rebuild.
Technostalgia has new complete assembly 39 Lincoln Zephyr
L.E.D. tail lights. I mentioned this to
Dick, thinking of Fred Dotson’s Zephyr.
Dick said yeah, Fred already has a set. I believe that Fred was wiring
those in this past week, with his trusty buddy Bob.
I used Technostalgia L.E.D. conversions for my Studebaker,
and found them to be good people to do business with. They had to make the conversions for my Stude front and rear, and
did so professionally and reasonably priced.
I’m sure there are many more member projects underway;
these are just the ones we are aware of.
Wilderness
Trail Car Show
As reported at the last meeting, it’s not too early to be
lining up new sponsors and making sure old ones are still on board with us.
Mike said that many of them he contacted by phone were comfortable with us just
sending them an invoice, and them mailing us the $50 at their convenience. Of course, we would have to be sure they are
comfortable with that arrangement.
Northeast
State Car Show
Thought we’d give this show an extra plug since NE State
has seen fit to employ our Club President for many years. This show is in conjunction with NE
State’s Career Day, where they bus in
kids and let them see what NESCC has to offer. The cars are parked around the
shop where the automotive program is located, and will hopefully gain the
interest of some of the high schoolers that might be interested in the program.
Ernie Morelock, automotive instructor, usually has the chassis dyno buzzing
with a LT1 powered Trans Am. Quiet
entertaining. Most of the cars in attendance are KARC member cars and they FEED
us. They also give a nice in-house milled aluminum plaque. Dick is bringing
flyers to the March Meeting.
Legislative
Alert from SEMA
The Tennessee State Senate has approved legislation to
create a vehicle registration and titling classification for custom vehicles.
You can log onto the SEMA website at www.sema.org for details.
Advertisers Sponsors Phone
Numbers
We had a request at the last meeting for phone numbers for our
advertisers/sponsors. We are planning
on doing that but don’t have that together at this time. Should have them by the next newsletter. For
ones on the Internet, numbers and addresses are listed on our website.
