Allandale AACA Show

The local AACA chapter held their 30th Anniversary car show at the Allandale Mansion on Sept. 21st.  It was a perfect fall day, and there were unofficially 352 registered vehicles. As usual there were many I had not seen. KARC member Mikel Smith was seen handling the MC position as he has for the last several years. Our old yeller KARC  Kar Tunes boom box was standing proud and served the event well. Norman Davis’ Studebaker  took another double, with a Presidents Choice and a Top 25 plaque.  Fred Dotson also had a Top 25 with his Zephyr. Don’t know how many club members won  door prizes, but I selected a nice bundle of rags for my own. I think there were 20 bikes given out to kids, and that was a big hit, as it was at our show.

Old Yuma Post Office Cruise-In

Sept. 28th

Formerly known as Cas’s Country Cruise, and now known as the Old Yuma Post Office Cruise-In near  the well known Yuma, Virginia Mall. Jim Wade of Center Machine, one of our oldest sponsors (not age) decided to host this years event at an old farm house  a mile or so from the Yuma Mall. There was plenty of parking and good Hot Rod Socializing going on. My unofficial estimate was 30-40 cars, with  tons of fine eating. This was a pretty large undertaking, and many thanks to Jim, and his helping hands of friends and family. Everyone who came was highly appreciative of the effort. My usually reliable source informs me that G. Armstrong was found cruising W. Carters Valley (about 4 miles away).  Bruce Roberts spotted G. and escorted him to the Cruise-In/Picnic.  Apparently his GPS had led him astray.

Studebaker National Event

The week of Sept. 15-20 The Studebaker Drivers Club hosted their annual National Event in Lancaster, PA. I (Sid) attended, without my Stude, but enjoyed the 500 or so Studes in attendance.  Probably 70% of the total were original, some slightly modified, and others greatly modified. Even if you are not a Studebaker person, if you like old cars in general, it was well worth the trip.

NAPA, Weber City-Cruise-In

The Weber City, VA Napa Auto Parts  sponsored a nice cruise on Oct. 4th.  The little Cruise-In attracted almost 150 entrants. With no entry fee  and  lots of door prizes this show is attracting more and more participants. Several KARC members were there and Buckshot Elliott was given a plaque for “Best Ford”. Don’t think any other club members won door prizes or plaques.

Members Machines and Gossip

As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, Jim Bledsoe had a big offer on his ‘36 cabriolet on Friday at the Shades Run in  Pigeon Forge.  He broke down on Saturday and sent it to Ohio.   He bought a Down’s bodied, ’34 Ford coupe to drive back home. Jim already has several ideas to personalize it more to his and Debby’s taste.

Dick Cartwright now has a rolling chassis for his 55 Chevy project.

David Davis has decided to rebuild and has already installed another 4.3 Chevy V6 in his Morris Minor. Also, I think most of the car is now painted.

Charlie Ball with the help of Sid Vicars and Jim Bledsoe has sprayed 2 gallons of Z Chrome Rust Defender  primer filler on his bare metal 37 Ford, 4 door.

If there are other club members with on-going projects , let me (Sid)  or Charlie Ball know, and we’ll include you in the newsletter.

Health Issues

In case anyone hasn’t heard, our good friend and member Astor Christian is in Holston Valley Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. Bill Hurd has visited Astor several times and is the most informed about Astor’s situation at this time.  Bill has said that he has been able to visit without any problems, and that Astor’s spirits have remained good. Astor, we wish you all the best. Billy Hurd’s surgery is also coming up this month. I did notice at Wade’s picnic that Bill was on a very constricted diet.  He only sampled 30 of the 50 possible selections.  We wish the best of luck for Billy also, in his upcoming surgery.
