2009 Christmas Party
The 2009 Xmas party has been rescheduled for
Saturday, February l3th. Everyone can
bring what they had originally planned for the original December Christmas
party. Dick Cartwright saved his food,
in case of such an instance. Members
however are encouraged to bring food not more than two days old. Since this is
the day before Valentine ’s Day you can call it the
sweetheart party, if you so dare. We
will have our February meeting before then to iron out any final details. We
have also been told that a KARC member’s wife is having a birthday on the l3th,
and another member’s wife is having her birthday on the l5th. I am sure they will appreciate coming to the
KARC 2009 Xmas party to celebrate!! Or,
maybe not !!
Summer Picnic
If you weren’t at the January meeting, or
just not paying any attention, Dick Cartwright has invited the KARC to have a
picnic at his place on Sunday, May 9th. That is the week end after the NSRA Nats

Condolences
Condolences go out to the family of Frank
Carr’s step father, Mr. Watson who passed away at about the same time as our
January meeting. Very few people at the meeting knew about it.
Gray Fairground Swap Meet
Described in last month’s newsletter as the
“Great Freeze Out”, unfortunately rang all too true. Friday, the 29th
was merely cold with snow starting in afternoon, then snowing all night. Other
than vendors, there were only the true die hards who
showed up on Saturday, sporting snow shoes and Eskimo like garments. Rayford Dingus had made a good buy for his Mustang, and
Dick Cartwright unloaded a few treasures onto unsuspecting buyers. Everything Dick sold was OEM, NOS for
whatever the buyer was looking to find. Another member bought a set of Buick V6
SS headers to be used for garage art. The Armstrong brothers ventured out
Sunday and were seen carrying a few treasures.
Article on Ethanol in Gasoline
The January 2010 Studebaker Drivers Club
monthly magazine had an excellent article concerning the current use of ethanol
mixed in gasoline. There have been numerous articles about the possibilities
for older carbureted engines, and flexible fuel lines when ethanol is in the
gasoline. This article was to the point and mostly in good ole layman’s
language. This article addresses some additives that can help to alleviate some
of the problems associated with ethanol. Obviously your fuel injected cars are
not affected, but the majority of our members are running carburetors. The
complete article can be read on: www.mossmotors.com

2010 Fellow Pages
The NSRA 2010 Fellow Pages will be appearing
in the mail in a few months. KARC member Mikel Smith
has already taken action to list The KARC and all its members to be included in
the Fellow Pages. EX NSRA members (enraged over the new 30 year rule) who have
burned their membership cards are probably not expected to be listed, or to
make use of the fellow pages, in an emergency. For KARC members who are not
NSRA members, the Fellow Pages is a nice little book to carry in your Hot Rod,
with listings of NSRA members who have consented to help a fellow rodder in distress. There are names, addresses, and phone
numbers from all across the country.

Members Machines and Gossip
Perry Stapleton’s 40
Charlie Ball has purchased a really nice
.030 over 350 Chevy engine which was built a few years
ago by our late friend Harry Bishop, for a friend of mine, Robert Harris. The engine was run in on Harry’s
test stand and never installed into any vehicle. I’m assuming the engine is going into
Charlie’s 52 Ford PU, or maybe the 37 or the LaSalle, or the 34 Delivery. So many choices, so little
time.
I (Sid) happened upon Mike Smith’s home
garage and overheard him talking to himself, (or to the Olds). After entering his garage, I saw Mike had his
rear end housing on jack stands, installing new bushings onto the 10 bolt. His
68 442 convertible is now sporting a very nice looking, and tight fitting black canvas top, installed by
Speedway Seat covers. The black top over silver paint looks mighty good, even
if it ain’t mine.
It’s about ready for a trip to Tony’s muffler
shop for a complete exhaust. Also Mike
is about to get a patent on his 350 Olds A/C compressor bracket. There are no commercially available brackets
for this engine.
Jim Bledsoe’s shop is still doing double
duty on John Stolz’s 38 Chevy, and a 5 window 50
Chevy PU. Head engineer Jerry Collins
reports the pickup is close to getting paint.
Jim is now allowing heat in the shop and warm water for wet sanding.
Jerry reports the water was so cold his hands went into spasms, and he was not
able to sand for a full day.
Mack Armstrong has confirmed that he has
taken delivery of the 40 Buick coupe, and he has
commenced working on the Buford.
KARC Friday Cruise IN
There have been meetings with possibilities
discussed for an event to replace our Wal-Mart Super Cruise. Sid Vicars, Bud
Barrett, and Jim Collier have talked with the managers of K Mart and The Kingsport Town Center (old
