Condolences
Condolences go out to several KARC member’s families
after their recent loss. There are times
when pertinent club members do not know of a member’s family having passed
away.
Tom Herron’s mom Lassie Moore, Charlie Rodgers’ mother Helen Rodgers, and
KARC member Russ Hittle have passed away in recent
months. Russ had not been with us long
enough for a lot of members to have personally met him. Treasurer, Jim Collier has made contributions
from the KARC to separate charitable organizations according to each family’s wishes.
Shows/Events
KARC
Fall Cruise/Diners Delite
On Saturday, October 15th approximately
17 KARC members driving their rod/custom/muscle/or special steel on wheels
congregated at the Meadowview Convention Center and traveled mostly together to
the Farmers Daughter Restaurant on Route 107 on the Nolichuckey
River. On a perfect fall day most of the members traveled a scenic, leisurely drive along
route 81 through Jonesborough and on to the Farmers Daughter. A few members apparently drove I-81 and
arrived earlier. Other members from
Rogersville met us at the restaurant.
There were 20 or so club cars present. Our 12 noon reservations evolved
into a 1.30 p.m. eat time. After the
food arrived everyone seemed content and concentrated on devouring the morsels
laid before them. Big smiles were seen
roundabout. The total KARC number fed
was 47 adults and a few grand kids.
Good
Guys, Charlotte
On Oct. 27-30 the Goodguys Southeastern Nationals
were held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Mike, Sid, Dick and Fred Dotson
motored over together on a perfect Thursday morning. Friday was cold with rain
threatening. Saturday was sunny and a
little cool. Fred was in good form primarily from the fact that his Zephyr was
back on the road after his 396” motorvator had been
overhauled and was
happy to be back in service.
A few members visited the Dennis Carpenter Museum
only a mile or so from the track. If you are ever in the area it’s definitely
worth attending. The admission is free, and if you need any Ford rubber,
plastic dash parts, tail light lenses, or one of his 11,000 parts you can pick
that up while you are there. Most Ford people
know the high quality of his products. KARC
member and Goodguys Regional Rep
Mikel Smith was doing duty throughout the event., and was left working the event on Sunday while
his friends came back to
Kingsport. With a Saturday night track cruise, Friday and Saturday autocross,
lots of vendors, and a good mix of approximately 2500 entries, this event is well worth
attending. Only 3.5 hours from
Kingsport, if you’re mileage constrained.
Asheville
Chassis Dyno Shootout
On Saturday November 5th The Street Tiques car club of Asheville, NC teamed up with Nascar legend Dave Marcis at Daves’ Asheville Speed and Equipment Shop in Arden, NC, for
their first ever chassis dyno shootout. Sid, Charlie
Ball, and Smoker Lane attended and met Jim and Debby Bledsoe already there.
There was a car show along with a special price for running your car on Dave’s
chassis dyno, letting the participant know what his
true rear wheel horsepower is. I (Sid) decided to place
the ole Stude on the dyno,
knowing it could be embarrassing. Find out at the November KARC club meeting.
If these two organizations
get together again next year, take that old hot rod over and see what the real numbers
are. It is only 91 miles from Colonial Heights.
Cruise
the Smokies Show
By: Dick Cartwright
Fred Dotson, Bruce Roberts, Perry Stapleton, Randy
Bledsoe, Rayford Dingus, Carl and Sandy Scott and I
(Dick) made the trip to Cherokee, NC for the Cruise the Smokies, weekend of
Nov. 4-6. The drive over involved rain and heavy fog, once we got there the
weather was beautiful. Saturday night we and the Winnsboro gang were treated to
a sumptuous meal of Native American food and entertained by a Native American
dancer. I think all involved will agree, it was a wonderful experience. Bruce was the big winner on
this trip. Saturday he won a complete auto refurbishing system, Sunday the
beautiful Chrysler wagon received the prestigious host club award. This is one
of the few awards that didn’t include a cash prize. Good to know they recognize quality car.

Machines & Gossip
A 2010 fact recently came up to the attention of the
Newsletter staff. KARC member Bruce
Roberts’ 56 Chrysler wagon was chosen as “Best of Show” at the 2010 Rock around
the Clock car show in Winnsboro, SC. Of course Bruce didn’t mention it and I (Sid) did not hear
about it, but felt it was worthy of
print.
Mike Smith is replenishing his stock again. A 64 Chevy Suburban Wagon arrived at the
Smith homestead last week. Green with a 350/700R4 combo, tilt column already installed in a
Texas rust free body. Mike is looking
at a chassis kit with all new control arms, springs, brakes, and dropped
spindles. Mike likes them to steer and
stop, while sitting with a little attitude. Mike’s 59 Biscayne is on the
chopping block, ala listed on Hot Rod Hotline.
Jim Collier has been busy installing rear sway bars
on his 56 Chevy and 48 Ford Coupe.
KARC member Glen Armstrong attended the Rogersville
Heritage Days show on Oct. 14th.
One of his friends.,
reported that to get Glen to attend, his brother James paid his gas, and brother
Mack bought his supper. Glen can
confirm-- or not.
Items bought at Charlotte Goodguys by KARC members:
Two more of the carb heat
dissipater plates were purchased. One each for Mike Smith and Charlie Ball. Stay tuned for progress reports on this unit.
Dick Cartwright almost bought a 55 Pontiac.
Bruce Roberts –longer upper control arms for his 56
wagon, bought via cell phone passed
from Sid to the Fatman.
Sid— Miscellaneous Lynn Steele
rubber for the 41 & a GMPP sbc serpentine belt
kit also for the ole 41.
Charlie Ball—Dennis Carpenter
trunk rubber for the 37 Fordor.
A KARC member was reportedly asked to slow his rod
down during the Sat. night track cruise at the recent Goodguys show in
Charlotte.
Correction: The October issue of the KARC
newsletter incorrectly stated that member Jim Bledsoe’s VSRA organization was
holding a meet at the Disney World Complex in 2011. That meet is to be held in March of
2012. For correct information check the
VSRA website, or talk directly to Jim.
KARC
Elections
Just a reminder, although KARC officer elections
will not be held until the December meeting, be thinking of them. Treasurer Jim
Collier has expressed a desire to retire as treasurer after several years of
excellent service to the KARC. As most
KARC members know the Vice President of this year steps up as President next
year, therefore in December we need to elect a new VP for 2012. Whilst you are
thinking of new officers we also need to be thinking of members machines to be
displayed on the 2012 Wilderness Trail
Show flyers, T Shirts, etc.
Caution: Thinking has been linked
to burned brain cells!!!
